**WARNING: REALLY HORRIBLE PHOTOGRAPHY AHEAD. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK etc etc**
Ok fine, you lazy ass. My point in that post was that motorcycles are incredibly dangerous. And shortly after writing it, I found more pictures I had taken of several other patients who utterly and completely proved my point beyond any reasonable doubt.
A man in full protective gear crashed his motorcycle after taking a turn too fast. Not only did he still end up with road rash (despite his complete full-body "protection"), it didn't help his femur at all:
Ow. Leather and kevlar DO NOT PROTECT BONES. Got that?
A few days later a woman was riding her death trap, also in full protective gear, when she hit some gravel, lost control, and crashed. Did all that leather save her? See for yourself:
And yet another idiot was riding his murdercycle when he was hit by a car. Had HE been in a car, he would have been fine. But his leg took the brunt of the impact, and it was far from fine:
Ooch! When bit of your bones start heading off down the road on their own you just know something's gone seriously wrong!
ReplyDeleteIn the first picture, what's shown on the right of the picture? I thought initially it was the other (broken) leg but then it looks like it has a screw-thread on it.
Interesting post as ever Doc'.
That's another one of those temporary braces that the medics use to hold the leg steady during transport.
DeleteThe guy with his back to us in the background of the last picture looks like he's not wearing pants. Hmm...
ReplyDeleteWhat kinda hospital are you running there, doc?
Someone is doing a little too much detective work.
DeleteBelieve it or not, that's one of the trauma staff wearing peach-coloured scrubs with a baggy shirt over them. No naked staff members, just naked patients.
Somehow peach-colored pants are worse than no pants at all. I guess they don't hire you surgeons for your fashion sense... :P
DeleteYou know, when I was a child, a family friend took me for a ride on their motorbike. It was the best fun I'd ever had and since then I always wanted to get a motorbike licence. Not a car licence. A bike licence. I didn't want to drive, I wanted to ride.
ReplyDeleteBut as I've gotten older...I'm not so sure about that. I actually have issues with driving a car, it makes me nervous. How much more nervous would I be riding a bike?! I'd have no protection. Yeah, they're cool and I still love the way they look and whatnot, but I think I'll be admiring the machines from afar.
Too dangerous, too much of a risk for me. I like my bones the way they are (except for my hand, its a little messed up) and I don't want to damage them. Nor do I want to die.
Lesson learned: riding a motorcycle is not worth having your leg FUCKING EXPLODE ALL OVER A HIGHWAY.
ReplyDeleteI used to love motorcycles. One friends nasty accident (and several "discussions" about riding a death trap later) they have lost the appeal they once had.
ReplyDeleteI feel the need to share this. There was recently a major motorcycle accident in my sleepy little hometown. A minivan driver crossed over into the wrong lane, colliding with two motorcycles, with two riders each. The cyclists were killed almost instantly, and the van driver would have been fine if they hadn't driven off the road. All five people died. Such a tragedy. Everyone was going the speed limit, and all the riders had full protective gear. I guess the point is that you can be the best motorcycle rider in the history of mankind, but it only takes one mistake from an idiot in a normal car to kill you.
ReplyDeleteYou can't fight physics. Learn conservation of momentum and energy transfer in collisions. It may just save your life.
The spam on this post is fucking hilarious.
ReplyDeleteOops, I missed that. I don't need that crap around here. Deleted.

ReplyDeleteThis was yet another shameless, disgusting advert. I am removing the content but keeping the name up so everyone can see it and be disgusted with me.
DeleteFor motorcycle tour in India, riders require a legitimate motorcycle driving license and most importantly need a credit card. All such issue can become the headache of motorcycle renting company, if you rent motorcycle from them.

This bike offers a comfortable ride at a great value. It has good main components, mudguard and panning mounts which are great to take both in road biking and mountain biking. best hybrid bikes
