That said, I won't be packing it anywhere. I want to make sure I can carry it legally if I travel. Thankfully, I've never needed to use it, but given that my local police department is woefully understaffed, I feel that I could benefit from having something to defend myself and my wife if I need it.

What bothers me about gun control is that only the rabid far-left and far-right thinkers seem to get the spotlight. I only ever hear from toothless rednecks spouting their beliefs that they should have the right to own automatic rifles and submachine guns (invariably to defend their militia compound), or extreme left-wing nutjobs that think that somehow a full ban on all guns is not only the answer, but that it's feasible to enforce said ban.

We need a centrist approach. Legal gun ownership for suitable citizens. Stringent background checks and waiting periods. Zero access to automatic weapons. Bans on weapon modifications like suppressors and modifications that enable near-automatic fire. Hell, let's do mental health checks to make sure people aren't liable to shoot up a place.

But that's just my view. I don't claim to be an expert.
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13878483195727539990noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1809371631407381115.post-27283719628544697292017-10-09T14:55:34.411+03:002017-10-09T14:55:34.411+03:00Connor -

Burglary is in decline anyway for economic reasons - most stuff in people's houses just isn't worth the bother thanks to the drop in consumer electronics prices - and if you are robbing houses as an occupation, you make sure that people are out before entering. Even without guns, the homeowner is a complication that makes the whole thing unprofitable. Either you have to run, or you commit a much more serious crime that gets the police seriously interested. So - home invasion is extremely rare, more so if you discount things like gangs raiding drug dealer's houses. If the thought does seriously worry you, then the best investment is passive physical security - locked and secured doors and windows that would take serious effort to get through. Unless someone has an acute personal reason to attack you, they will look for an easy target to break into.

Outside of the home.. if you've been involved in street violence, you'll know that it's unexpected, quick and confusing. You don't have bad guys giving advance notice of their intentions and, ideally, wearing tabards to identify themselves. The only thing a gun brings to such a situation is higher stakes.

Andrewhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02729454651003425550noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1809371631407381115.post-15652432555481271242017-10-09T13:06:01.291+03:002017-10-09T13:06:01.291+03:00Licensing? Some people say it's a license to carry. Registration. YES. Registration is not a license. It means that when you buy a gun the serial number on that gun will be registered to your name. None of them carried thermal imaging riflesope. They probably carried night visions but those are useless given the situation. A thermal imaging riflescope should have been used to engage the shooter. It's perfect in cases like this. Very accurate. It detects heat on your forehead. Detects heat on your body mass. If the target is emitting heat that target is dead meat. With thermal imaging, the police could have engaged the shooter from the outside of the building, instead of waiting for SWAT to physically enter his room.
